USN Pure Protein IGF-1 contains faster absorbing whey proteins as well as slower absorbing casein, egg and soy proteins. This makes it appropriate as a snack between meals and ideal to take before bed where the slower release of amino acids into the blood stream is important to maintain protein synthesis. However, if taking the recommended 2 scoops per serving, 40g of protein is a lot of protein to be digesting between meals. One serving also provides a modest amount of vitamins and minerals essential for normal bodily functions, but unlike some vitamin supplements it does not exceed %RDAs (Recommended Daily Allowances), which taken is excess can lead to health issues.
The inclusion of their “ZYMATECH Multiple Enzyme Technology(TM)” may improve the digestion of protein in individuals with lactose intolerance. The inclusion of the proteolytic enzymes (enzymes that specifically break down protein) can improve the rate at which the protein is digested, however if you want a slow release of amino acids, such as before bed, this would not be optimum. There is no evidence that supplementation of L-glutamine will improve muscle recovery or gains in size and strength beyond that of whey protein.
IGF-1 (insulin like growth factor) is a hormone that is essential for growth and recovery which is primarily affected by exercise, but can also be increased with protein intake. Despite the inclusion of the word “IGF-1” in the name of USN’s Pure Protein, it does not contain anything that would increase circulating levels of IGF-1 beyond that of any other protein supplement.
- 40g blend of whey protein (isolate & concentrate) for a fast uptake of amino acids by the muscles and soy, egg and casein protein to provide a more prolonged supply of amino acids.
- A boost in vitamin and minerals, without exceeding %RDAs which can lead to health problems.
- Low in carbohydrates (2.9g) and fat (3.5g) making it ideal for a snack between meals or before bed.
Who’s it for
