ON Pro Complex is designed as a protein supplement to help aid recovery around your workout or as a snack to increase protein intake in your diet. Protein is provided in the form of whey protein, with an additional 15g of BCAA’s and 5 of glutamine. Whey protein is the fastest absorbing form of protein and is therefore ideal to be taken before, during or after your workout, when a quick supply of protein may be important.

Pro Complex provides an additional 15g of the branched chain amino acids (BCAA’s) which will contribute to an increase in total protein intake, but there is no convincing evidence that the addition of BCAAs further reduces muscle breakdown or increase gains in lean mass when compared to taking whey protein alone. It is worth considering that a typical 30g serving of whey protein will contain around 25% BCAAs, the majority of which will be leucine, therefore the addition of a further 15g of BCAA’s in this supplement will not improve gains in size and strength over that of just normal whey protein.

This supplement also contains an additional 5g of glutamine, which is often advertised as aiding muscle growth and reducing muscle soreness. However, there is not convincing evidence that glutamine can improve gains in strength or size beyond that of normal protein supplementation (e.g. whey protein contains glutamine). L-glutamine is a non-essential amino acid, meaning it can be produced by the body, therefore supplementation of it is unlikely to yield any positive results.

Pro Complex contains Aminogen, an enzyme involved in protein digestion which has been shown to increase the rate at which protein is absorbed, which may be beneficial when a fast uptake of protein is required, such as post workout. In summary, Pro Complex whey protein contains sufficient amounts of BCAA’s and glutamine, therefore the addition of those specific amino acids in this product may be unnecessary.

  • Whey protein is the fastest absorbing protein available and therefore it is ideal to be taken around your workout, but can also be used as a low fat, low carb snack.
  • The addition of aminogen may help digestion and increase the rate of protein absorption.
  • Extra BCAA’s and glutamine are unlikely to have any effect beyond that of whey protein alone.
